Explore Des Plaines River

The Des Plaines River Trail Marathon is a point-to-point race that starts in Libertyville and finishes in Lincolnshire, covering a scenic route along the Des Plaines River. The trail offers a mix of natural beauty, including forests, wetlands, and wildlife.

This marathon for canoes and kayaks has been going for 66 years now. Paddle boards also joined in

The night before this event, we received news from organizers telling that water is low and might experience getting stuck in the mud and hit the bottom. There was a shortage of rainfall this year. This has been a big issue worldwide.

Starting off from Oak Spring Road in Libertyville. All participants gathered and 500 attended this year. This was the first time I hard of this event, however Sylvia attended it a number of times. got to see variety of kayaks and canoes. We had decided not to participate in the race, and so, we got off early and for sometime we had the river to ourselves and pacing ourselves.
