Road Trip in Iceland
Travel Note
New Horizons in Iceland
There’s always something new on the horizon. That’s the beauty of travel—you never truly know what to expect. For this trip, we simply hit the road and let things unfold, even though the group dynamics were untested. I had traveled with Sylvia before, but never in an Recreational Vehicle. Joining us in this trip were John and Sharon, longtime friends of Sylvia’s, whom she hadn’t seen in years. It was a risk. Some might worry it’d be a recipe for disaster, the kind that strains friendships. But we didn’t overthink it. We just trusted our instinct and went for it — opening ourselves to vulnerabilities and weaknesses.
It felt a bit awkward at first when we met at the airport. Sylvia didn’t recognize John and Sharon—they even walked right past her. Eventually, we came across and all gathered at the arrival area and started our journey together. The moment we connected, any lingering anxiety melted away. We headed to the camper rental center, the first official step of our adventure.
The rental process took a while—longer than expected. Later on, I found out that tourism broke the record this year. The place was bustling, which, in hindsight, should’ve hinted at the crowds we’d encounter later. The wait gave us time to settle in as a group. Our first booking at the Blue Lagoon wasn’t until 8:00 PM, so we took the opportunity to stock up on groceries and organize ourselves a bit.
When we were relaxing in the pool of Blue Lagoon, we got time to get acquainted and enjoy the view. What an atmosphere to be in and get to know our traveling partners.
