Road Trip in Iceland
Travel Note
New Horizons in Iceland
There’s always something new on the horizon. That’s the beauty of travel—you never truly know what to expect. For this trip, we simply hit the road and let things unfold, even though the group dynamics were untested. I had traveled with Sylvia before, but never in an RV. Joining us were John and Sharon, longtime friends of Sylvia’s, whom she hadn’t seen in years—and none of us had ever traveled together. Honestly, it could have gone either way. Some might worry it’d be a recipe for disaster, the kind that strains friendships. But we didn’t overthink it. We just went for it, open to whatever came our way.
It felt a bit awkward at first when we met at the airport. Sylvia didn’t recognize John and Sharon—they even walked right past her. Eventually, as we all gathered at the arrivals area, introductions were made. I hadn’t met John and Sharon either, but I knew they were of Asian background, so I kept an eye out. The moment we connected, any lingering anxiety melted away. We headed to the camper rental center as a group, the first official step of our adventure.
The rental process took a while—longer than expected. The place was bustling, which, in hindsight, should’ve hinted at the crowds we’d encounter later, like at the Blue Lagoon. Still, the wait gave us time to settle in as a group. Our first booking at the Blue Lagoon wasn’t until 8:00 PM, so we took the opportunity to stock up on groceries and organize ourselves a bit.
