Taking on the Golden Ring
Travel Note
I never imagined myself coming here so soon. I’ve come across Iceland several times in magazines and I’ve seen it on the news. and even running across through magazine , but never it came into my mind that I had to do this. I knew that there would be time to get a chance to see this beautiful country. Then, things unfolded and an opportunity came along that I couldn’t resist and also, my situation also allowed me to do this.
The day came during the soltice day, the official day of summer, with Sylvia’s friends from Canada, we set off to Reykjavik, there we rented a camper van. It was our first time to rent one like this and that’s why it took sometime to get used to this type of traveling.
It took some time to adjust to the setup of our camper van, from raising the ceiling at the back for extra sleeping space to organizing and then stowing away the table. Fortunately, it was a collaborative effort, with everyone pitching in to get things sorted.
In Reykjavik where it seemed like the daylight was 24 hours at this time of the year, we had dinner at dinner together was getting used to it — the space was minimal.
area of the camper van and enjoyed breakfast together before embarking on our journey. Rather than lingering in the city, we set our sights on the Golden Circle, a renowned route that encompasses iconic landmarks such as Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir Geothermal Area, and the majestic Gullfoss waterfall. Navigating this popular circuit was seamless, with convenient stops providing easy access to each sight.

As the day drew to a close, we checked into the campground and decided to unwind at the municipal swimming pool of the Hvolsvöllur Camp Site. It's worth noting that most towns in Iceland boast public geothermal swimming pools, adding to the country's charm and offering travelers a unique way to relax and rejuvenate.
It is common for towns in Iceland to have municipal geothermal swimming pools due to the abundant geothermal energy sources found throughout the country. Iceland sits atop the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, a tectonic boundary where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. This geological activity results in a high concentration of geothermal hot springs and volcanic activity.
Harnessing this geothermal energy, Icelanders have developed a sophisticated system of geothermal heating for various purposes, including swimming pools. Municipal geothermal pools offer numerous benefits:
Natural Heating: Geothermal pools are naturally heated by underground geothermal sources, providing a warm and comfortable swimming environment year-round, even in Iceland's chilly climate.
Health Benefits: The mineral-rich water of geothermal pools is believed to have therapeutic properties, such as relieving muscle tension, improving circulation, and promoting relaxation.
Community Gathering Spaces: Municipal geothermal pools serve as important community gathering spaces where locals and visitors alike can socialize, exercise, and relax.
Tourist Attractions: Geothermal pools are popular tourist attractions, drawing visitors who seek to experience Iceland's unique natural features and cultural practices.
Environmental Sustainability: Utilizing geothermal energy for heating reduces reliance on fossil fuels and minimizes greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with Iceland's commitment to environmental sustainability.
Overall, municipal geothermal swimming pools exemplify Iceland's innovative use of its natural resources to enhance quality of life, promote wellness, and foster community engagement
