Mountaineering
Pico de Posets
Peak: Pico de Posets
Location: Huesca, Aragon
Country: Spain
It all began with teasing during our morning classes—who would dare to climb the second-highest peak in the Spanish Pyrenees? And who would chicken out?
Soon enough, it was time to walk the talk. We arranged for a guide from Benasque, a small mountain town known as a hub for outdoor adventures in the high Pyrenees—skiing, mountaineering, and alpine climbing. His name was Chameri.
We drove together to meet him in Benasque, and from there he led us to the trailhead. Our plan was to hike to the Refugio Ángel Orús, where we would spend the night before the ascent. We arrived just in time for dinner.
Afterward, the refuge buzzed with activity. Teams prepared their gear, boots shuffled across the floor, and voices echoed in the corridors. With people constantly coming and going, it was hard to sleep.
At 4:00 a.m., in the darkness and cold, we finally set out.
