Going back to Venice

With all the noise around us, we rarely give ourselves the chance to revisit the trails we’ve left behind in our travel photographs. Too often, I simply move on with life without looking back at them. Now that I don’t travel as much, my laptop is warning me that its storage is full, forcing me to finally take action and sort through years of memories. Deleting photos means choosing which moments to keep close and which ones to quietly place back on the back burner.

I have always loved Venice. Some of my most meaningful memories are tied to that city, beginning with my backpacking years when I first wandered through its narrow streets and canals. Since then, whenever I’ve had the opportunity, I’ve found myself returning again and again.

I first knew Venice in the warmth and brightness of summer, but later I spent a few days there in winter, and that became the season I loved most. There was something unforgettable about walking through the city on a foggy evening—the silence, the dim lights reflected on the canals, and the mysterious atmosphere that seemed to belong to another time. Those evenings remain some of the best moments I’ve experienced there.

Then, in 2022, on my way to Trieste, I decided to stop in Venice for a few more days. And on my way back, I returned once again, unable to resist spending a little more time in a place that has always felt familiar, timeless, and deeply personal to me.
